Town boss Mick McCarthy says hat-trick hero Grant Ward has shown no signs of getting carried away after his Roy of the Rovers debut performance in Saturday’s 4-2 home victory over Barnsley.

Town secured their place in round two of the Carabao Cup for the first time in three years after goals from Jack Taylor, on his debut, and Sone Aluko saw them to a 2-0 victory over Bristol Rovers at Portman Road. Taylor gave the Blues the lead in the 12th minute, then sub Aluko added the second on 76 as Town dominated the latter stages and might have scored more.
Town begin their 2023/24 home campaign with a first-round Carabao Cup tie against League One Bristol Rovers on Wednesday evening on Portman Road’s new pitch.
