Man sent threat over Whatsapp social media to social worker

A WINCHESTER man has narrowly avoided a prison sentence for sending a threatening message to a social worker. Grant Turner, 48, of St Catherines Road, Highcliffe, sent a social media message on Whatsapp to Rebecca Snook. Turner was in court to admit the offence committed in Winchester on August 16. Magistrates in Basingstoke jailed him for eight weeks but suspended the sentence for 12 months. They said it was a serious offence with threats made to a social worker doing her job. The court also added a rehabilitation activity requirement for up to 15 days, ordered Turner to pay £100 compensation, a £128 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

New VOA Director Arrives With Baggage: Anti-Islamic and Homophobic Writings at 5:01 pm NPR Robert R. Reilly is taking the reins at the Voice of America with extreme, publicly stated views on some subjects that may complicate his mission of sharing news and U.S. values with vast audiences around the globe. In his writings, Reilly has characterized the religion of Islam as though it is something of a monolith, and he attacks it for failing, in his judgment, to sufficiently denounce terrorists who draw inspiration from radical interpretations of the faith. And Reilly has repeatedly condemned homosexuality, arguing, for example, that widespread social acceptance of gay marriage requires a collective lie.
