Two hikers and a dog were rescued Tuesday night after becoming stranded along the banks of the South Fork Clearwater River.
According to the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office, the two were in a situation where they could not continue any farther because of darkness, loss of trail and the riverbank being too steep to navigate in the dark.
Deputies, along with volunteers with the Grangeville Mountain Rescue, Syringa General Hospital ambulance and a physician deployed a raft and successfully navigated across the river to retrieve the hikers one at a time. Both were reportedly uninjured and safely returned to their vehicle. (Lewiston Tribune, Idaho County Sheriff’s Office)
