Christmas Covid warning as infection rate start to creep up

St Helens town centre RESIDENTS have been warned they risk sending St Helens “back to square one” if they do not take the coronavirus rules serious over Christmas, as infection rates begin to creep up. Over the weekend the government scaled back plans to allow households to form ‘Christmas bubbles’, allowing it only on Christmas Day itself rather than five days as planned. This follows a surge in cases in London and parts of the South East, which is believed to be driven by a new variant of Covid-19 that is even more infectious. Locally, Covid-19 infection rates across the entire Liverpool City Region have started to rise, although St Helens only saw a small increase.

Public health chiefs share important coronavirus message

Public health chiefs share important coronavirus message as Christmas approaches PUBLIC health chiefs have issued some key advice for staying safe over the Christmas period, ahead of the first wave of Covid vaccinations. St Helens residents will begin to receive the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine on Wednesday, as part of the community arm of the NHS’s vaccination programme, which is being coordinated by GPs. The vaccine will be offered to the community in age and risk order, meaning it will be well into 2021 before many people are able to receive one. While the vaccine’s arrival is a beacon of hope for St Helens, residents have been warned they must continue to play their part to keep the virus at bay.
