KANSAS CITY, Mo. â The results of Tuesdayâs elections across Missouri have economists feeling optimistic.
From Claycomo to Grandview and Blue Springs to Kansas City, voters in just about every municipality approved a new tax or renewed an existing tax.
The fact voters are willing to tax themselves during a pandemic is a sign the economy is rebounding, according to Bill Black, an associate professor of economics and law at the University of Missouri - Kansas City.

It may seem relatively calm and mild in Winnipeg, but many other parts of Manitoba woke up to winter weather warnings that forced some schools and highways to close.
An intense low-pressure system will continue to work its way east today, CBC meteorologist John Sauder forecasts. Ahead of the system is a band of freezing rain that is now moving into Ontario.
The meeting was held online because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Because it was the last regular meeting of the year, the proposed ordinances would have to be introduced again in 2021.
One of those tabled would have removed a stop sign at the intersection of Beachmont Terrace and Hamilton Drive East. The stop sign was approved in 2018 to try to slow speeding on Beachmont near Grandview School.
Residents who spoke against the proposed ordinance said it would send the wrong message to drivers if the stop sign was removed without being replacing with another means of slowing traffic, such as speed humps. Some noted that during the pandemic, there are even more cars on those roads because the school district halted subscription busing and no students are carpooling.

Candidate filing for school board positions across Stephens County and municipal positions at stake in Marlow officially wrapped up last week with only two elections scheduled as a result.
