Yesterday in the Lusail Sports Arena, in Doha, Qatar; the President of the Hungarian Table Tennis Association Mr. Roland Natran met with World Table Tennis Directors and staff to discuss the future to bring WTT events to Hungary.
Hungary, who hosted the fantastic Liebherr 2019 World Table Tennis Championships in Budapest, has continued to show interest to host a Grand Smash event in the future once the Pandemic ends. They are also keen to help host an event before the Tokyo Olympic Games if deemed feasible.
Roland Natran stated:“In these uncertain times we need a two-fold approach: in the short-term it is essential to have a WTT event in Europe before the Olympic Games, where players are able to prepare in a competitive environment and collect World Ranking points. Chinese stars added to line-up for WTT Middle East hub Thursday, 21 January 2021
China s Xu Xin and Sun Yingsha are among the stars to be announced for the World Table Tennis (WTT) Middle East hub in Doha in March.
China has largely been absent from international sport of late due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but a number of the country s top table tennis players are set to compete at Lusail Sports Arena in the Qatari capital.
The Middle East hub is set to feature two tiers of the new WTT event structure.
A WTT Contender tournament is scheduled for March 3 to 6 and will be followed by a WTT Star Contender event from March 8 to 13.

Qatari capital Doha is to stage two World Table Tennis (WTT) events in March, as WTT pursues a hub concept in light of the coronavirus pandemic and utilises a time window vacated by the cancellation of the team World Championships.
Scheduled to take place at the Lusail Sports Arena from March 3 to 13, the WTT Contender and WTT Star Contender tournaments are to be held back-to-back.
The WTT Contender competition is set to run from March 3 to 6, followed by the WTT Star Contender tournament from March 8 to 13.
WTT Grand Smashes level with ITTF worlds, Olympic Games on ranking points

BEIJING, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) Newly-founded World Table Tennis (WTT) Grand Smash events will sit atop table tennis s world rankings points system, after the ITTF Executive Committee approved a new rankings structure for the sport in 2021.
Winners of Grand Smashes will earn 2,000 points, making the events level with the ITTF World Championships and the Olympic Games at the top of the ranking points pyramid.
Up to four Grand Smashes are planned each year, meaning that players performances at these events will be key in determining their world rankings.
