When the dust settled the building s core, containing the stairwell and elevator shaft, remained upright at an angle. For the next two weeks, people traveled from near and far to take whimsical photographs with the tower in the background. The building finally collapsed in a cloud of dust on March 2 after two weeks of being whacked with a 5,600-pound wrecking ball. Jason & Jenn Baskett Halley, age 7, was excited to get a chance to see Dallas’ own Leaning Tower after hearing about the implosion gone wrong on the radio and the news. Who needs a trip to Italy when you can take a family day in the big city?!?

Larry Ronald Vieregge of Grapevine, 71, was killed when the plane crashed about 3 p.m. near a Sonic Drive-In parking lot along the service road of State Highway 360 near East Mayfield Road, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office.

() Two people were killed when a small plane crashed along a highway service road in North Texas shortly after taking off, authorities said. The Federal Aviation Administration said the single-engine Wheeler Express CT crashed Monday afternoon about 1 mile west of the Grand Prairie Municipal Airport, just west of Dallas. Grand Prairie Fire Chief Robert Fite said witnesses said the plane came down rapidly, hit a telephone pole and then struggled another 500 feet hitting the concrete multiple times before hitting a pickup truck traveling on the service road.
