The controversy surrounding the appointment of the former Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, as the leader of the Tijjaniyya Islamic Movement in Nigeria was put to rest on Sunday at the global headquarters of the movement in Senegal.
The Supreme Leader of the sect, Mahi Nyass, confirmed the appointment when he received the former emir on a Ramadan visit on Saturday.
PREMIUM TIMES gathered that Mr Sanusi II was invited to Senegal by Mr Nyass to confer the title of the Khalifah of the sect in Nigeria on him.

(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – The Dhariqa Tijaniyya, an Islamic sect, has denied appointing former Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II, as its leader in Nigeria.
Sheikh Mahi Nyass, the Grand World Leader (Caliphatul Arrm) of Dhariqa Tijaniyya disclosed this when he spoke with newsmen in Sokoto.
Nyasa, also the son and Vicegerent (Calipha) of Shehu Ibrahim Nyass, the reformer of Dhariqa said that the appointment of the sect’s leader in Nigeria must be subjected to scrutiny and nomination from scholars in Nigeria and Senegal.
“Such decisions have to be discussed at different foray, agreement must be reached before the announcement.
