NRA chief Wayne LaPierre faces tough questions in court Russia expense remains a mystery Salon 2 hrs ago Wayne LaPierre, of the National Rifle Association Bill Clark/CQ Roll Call
National Rifle Association head Wayne LaPierre, on the virtual witness stand during the third day of the group s highly anticipated bankruptcy trial in Texas, was peppered with a harsh line of questioning, including one about a $60,000 invoice marked Russia.
In Wednesday s testimony, the NRA s longtime executive vice president conceded that he did not inform several senior NRA officials that he would file his bankruptcy petition before he did so, including a board member who would have been his successor, Law & Crime reported. LaPierre also testified that he did not inform board members about the establishment of a company Sea Girt, LLC, which he formed in Texas for the purpose of filing for bankruptcy.

During his first day on the witness stand in a closely watched bankruptcy trial, National Rifle Association chief
Wayne LaPierre conceded Wednesday that he made a “mistake” by not disclosing his excursion on a Hollywood producer’s yacht on conflict-of-interest forms. The gun-group honcho also acknowledged on Thursday that he was disciplined for receiving “excess benefits.”
“Yes, I was disciplined,” LaPierre told the charities bureau chief of the New York State Attorney General’s Office. “I paid it back.”
On the first day of his testimony, LaPierre faced questioning about his excursions on two yachts, the Illusions and the Grand Illusions; all-expense-paid hunting trips in Botswana and other exotic locales for him and his wife; a shopping spree at a Beverly Hills Zegna for Italian suits that ran close to $300,000.
Decline in the West
January 12, 2021
The Western world as we knew it is in a state of flux. The recent attack on Capitol Hill by Trump-incited right-wing extremists in the US is the latest example of it.
There has been a perceptible decline of Western power and rise of China in the last two decades. The Western liberal democratic order is in a mess. Francis Fukuyama’s ‘end of history’ thesis seems like a cruel joke played on the Western world.
No one has analysed the decline of democracy in the West more extensively than Pankaj Mishra. Today, we are going to refer to Mishra’s November 2020 piece ‘Grand Illusions’, for the New York Review of Books, in this article.
they say i don t want to have to go through that again. you say smartest, you re absolutely right. the new wealth as i see it, being able to pay bills, having food on the table. no grand illusions. oh, i want to get that 15-room apartment downtown. you know what, i want to take care of the three rooms uptown and pay the rent on time. that makes me happy. i m refocused, learned lessons, it s not about the money but the happiness and doing the right things. i think, someone who says hunger being the best sauce, i grew up underweight and shorter than i should have been because of it specifically, no lunch programs where we lived for a long time. those kind of elements. you grew up today the way families are worried they will be after the depression?
my grandfather used so say hunger is the best sauce. we for two generations haven t known that. your book is a timely book. because people are willing to listen. they understand what it means to be without. they say i don t want to have to go through that again. you say smartest, you re absolutely right. the new wealth as i see it, being able to pay bills, having food on the table. no grand illusions. oh, i want to get that 15-room apartment downtown. you know what, i want to take care of the three rooms uptown and pay the rent on time. that makes me happy. i m refocused, learned lessons, it s not about the money but the happiness and doing the right things. i think, someone who says hunger being the best sauce, i grew up underweight and shorter than i should have been because of it specifically, no lunch
