Grand Forks County Commission moves to reopen fairgrounds

The Grand Forks County Commission has approved the reopening of the County Fairgrounds, with some restrictions.
The move to reopen the fairgrounds effectively repeals a vote made early in the pandemic to shutter the location in an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The Grand Forks School District will transition high school students back to classroom learning on an everyday basis starting this week. Students had been in a hybrid model due to coronavirus.
According to the North Dakota Health Department dashboard there are only three active cases of COVID-19 among students…and one active staff case…in Grand Forks County schools.
The local dashboard still has Grand Forks in the green or “low risk” category for the virus. Grand Forks County Health Officer Dr. Joel Walz is expected to rescind the mask mandate imposed back on January 18

The North Dakota Department of Health agreed this week to send all COVID-19 vaccines allocated for Grand Forks vaccination sites to Grand Forks Public Health and Altru Health System. The decision means that the city-owned Alerus Center will be virtually the only location in Grand Forks proper to receive the vaccine. The Herald s Joe Bowen reports that experts see pros and cons to the decision as well as its alternatives, but Grand Forks Mayor Brandon Bochenski, who requested the change, says it will make the vaccine rollout simpler and more streamlined.
