people need to heed the warning and get out now especially where the storm-filled waters surge and affect them. we re not going to have the ability to come out and get them. then there are these images from the grand cayman islands and they have the storm surge flooding areas right along the flood line. pedram javaheri is tracking the storm for us. tell us, what is the latest modeling showing and how will it actually track in terms of its impact on florida. across portions of western cuba, 115 miles an hour, storm surge up to 14 feet. that s the early indication of
you have hurricane warning out for the grand cayman islands and as we make our way up towards cuba, hurricane watches along the extreme western coast and tropical storm watches more in the center. storm surge is going to be one of the the key components, especially for cuba. you re talking 9 to 13 speet all along that western coastline, and the reason for the difference is you re going to start to see that storm rapidly intensify over the next 24 to 36 hours. likely becoming a hurricane later today or even early this evening and then possibly up to major hurricane strength as it s making its way into it goes from a 4 back town to a 3 and part of that is bus you have much cooler
national hurricane center. tell us what you re learning. let s look at the breakdown. the sustained winds are at 50 miles per hour, gusting up to 65. that forward movement has increased, up to 14 miles per hour to the west-northwest. another place where we have seen some of those changes is where we re talking about the watches and warnings. we can show you some of those. here where you see this pink color, that hurricane watch, we re starting to see some of those transition into hurricane warnings. we do still have the one for the grand cayman islands, but we re seeing more along cuba s coastline, as well. the reason is the intensification. we anticipate this storm to get stronger, which means that storm surge along the southern coast of cuba is expected to be 9 to 14 feet. that is very significant storm surge for that area. we talked about the reason for that is more strengthening will occur. we anticipate this will become a category 1 later today or
