people out there that are pulling this country apart for no other reason than to make money from it. only 12% of american people think that the country has become more united since biden took office and 49% say it is more divided and 38% say the country hasn t changed. that is not biden s fault, necessarily, but that is what people think about the state of the nation. we re almost a year into the biden s first term. if you were advising him, what would you do to tell him so he could change that and unite us more. the most important threat we have right now with the election coming up, having a double legitimacy crisis, where if the republicans lose, they don t accept it and they say there was trickery, if the democrats lose, we say there was voter suppression and there is no evidence in our voting system. i think there could be a grand bargaining on voting. at the state level where only republicans get their way and then at the federal level only
weekend. having to do with daca, having to do with other things. he s talking about the dreamers there. that seems to be one of these things that the president is talking about. could be a grand bargaining. i will deal with you when it comes the dreamers and let them stay for a certain amount of time. maybe nancy pelosi and the democrats say this could be a good bargaining chip. the president talked about that in the context of the supreme court overturning the stay of the judge by the ninth circuit. once that happens and his proposal to end protection for daca as it was set up by president obama, then he s talking about bringing daca in to the mix. nancy pelosi and one of the reasons that the president says that that judge is ruling is really interfered with us, back last year before the judge s ruling, the democrats came to the president and said how about daca in exchange for full funding for the wall?
and for good reasons that republicans are worried about. so many of them spent much of the time defending themselves on the preexisting conditions issue. they would have to try to make good or make a deal with the democrats. that s not going to be easy. the democrats are moving to the left when it comes to health care. more people are talking about medicare for all and the single payer plan. the idea of having a grand bargaining for trump and the republicans is a fantasy right now. republicans don t want to deal with health care and they spent time trying to deal with health care and the democrats ran on health care and won and they are trying to push as far as they can to have a more progressive system. it doesn t appear that there is any middle ground they can reach on this. republicans in the house have the wall street journal editorial board say this is probably a problem for
doing our work. one trillion, one hundred billion bucks. the thing on automatic pilot is health care and social security. they re not dealing with with all this grand bargaining, they re not getting to the real nub, which is health care, and social security reform. so it s a myth. i am curious, though, can you actually is there any way one party can deal with entitlements? or you almost have to have the divided government if you re ever going to have a conversation about social security? no, it has to be the grand bargain. it has to be the bipartisan bargain. because all of this stuff, whether it s entitlement reform or raising revenues, which i completely agree, both of them have to be part of getting this fixed. all of them are so easy to run political ads against. and unless we have members
would things. one, people are only eligible for it if they are actively looking for a job. secondly, this emergency unemployment benefit naturally tapers off or designed to taper off as the economy gets better. as the unemployment rate in your state goes down then less people are eligible. this is there for the places and across the country right now and where there s a real almost historic problem with long-term unemployment. this is the least we can do and the most we can do is create more jobs in 2014 and have more compromises and things like the president said combining a corporate tax reform that lowers tax rates with an infrastructure bill. that s the type of grand bargaining on jobs we do more in the long term to create more jobs of help more of the long-term employed have place to go. is there a deal to be made on minimum wage? increasing minimum wage? something around $10 an hour. there seems to be republican and democratic support for that. you know i do believe that.
