Calm the chaos thats the Trump Administration also in attendance was jeff session. Its believed this is the first time the attorney general has been in the same room since the president launched these attacks calling sessions week and beleaguered and disappointing after sessions recused himself from the russia investigation without telling the president beforehand, but we watched the pool spray, there were no signs of friction, just plenty of adulation for this new chief of staff. Good morning. This is our first Cabinet Meeting with general kelly. He will be chief of staff. We all know him and respect him, admire what hes done, and at homeland what hes done has been nothing short of miraculous. As you know the border was a tremendous problem, now close to 80 stoppage. Even the president of mexico called me and said their southern border very few people are coming, because they know theyre not going to get through our border which is the ultimate compliment. Each president faces pivotal moments when the nation they lead looks to them for leadership, empathy to be the consoler in chief. President trumps First Leadership test came this weekend when violence broke out at a rally of chiet supremacists and neonazis in charlottesville, virginia. One woman was killed and two Virginia State troopers died when the helicopter they were flying to monitor the scene crashed. The department of justice has opened a civil rights investigation into the deadly car attack. A little while ago the Charlottesville Police held a press conference and said while they regret that any lives were lost, they were prepared to change course once violence broke out. We were certainly not intimidated by the fire power of the altright. However, it was prudent to make sure that officers were equipped to go out and deal directly with the violence. We were hoping for a peaceful event. But many said President Trump failed this first big test when he condemned, quote, many side
Weekend in washington lets step back from the brink. Lets stop victimizing the American People and get back to work on their behalf. This is the trump shutdown, only President Trump can end it. We recognize that as a group of 20 plus bipartisan legislators we need to be working with our respective Leadership Teams to have them come to a level of consensus. For my democratic friends, dont overplay your hand. The Government Shutdown is not a good way to get an outcome legislatively. We learned that as republicans. So february 8th make sense to me. Bill a sample right there. Team fox coverage right now. John roberts the latest from the white house. Mick mulvaney standing by as well. We begin on capitol hill where the action is. There is peter doocy. Good morning, peter. Good morning, bill. Just a few minutes ago while republican alaska senator lisa mer kowski was heading into a
Need 60 votes to break a filibuster in the United States senate. They got 50 votes but theyre 10 short. The vote was 5049 and there were five democrats yeas. Joe donnelly and north dakota and doug joan the senator from alabama and doug mcclaskill. They represent a swing or competitive space so its a good vote for them to end the filibuster. But the problem is also on the republican side. Five republicans voted no. Lindsay graham of arizona and rand paul of kentucky and also you had mike lee of utah and then you had Mitch Mcconnell. Now, Mitch Mcconnell is for funding the government but they have to but the genie back in the bottle and come up with a solution to keep the government open maybe tomorrow or sunday certainly beforeful workers are supposed to go back to work on sunday. Mitch mcconnell voted no. Senate rules require if youre going to recall a bill for a vote have you to be on the prevailing side and in this case the nos prevailed so theyre getting back to a point to come up w
