Grafton hands Central Cass first loss in OT 47-45

By: Graham Gulsvig Casselton, ND- It was a matchup between two top ten programs in the state as the Grafton Spoilers traveled to the (7-1) Central Cass Squirrels. The Spoilers (8-1 overall) would win the game 47-45 in overtime to make it five straight victories against the Squirrels. Central Cass (7-1 overall) was lead by Max Kobbervig with 11 points and a clutch shot to tie the game with seconds left in regulation. The Spoilers were paced by Brandon Albrecht and Justin Garza who had game-highs of 13 points. Next up for Central Cass, they will play Carrington on Saturday afternoon while the Spoilers will host Larimore High School on Jan. 21st @ 6:00 p.m.

Thompson Girls remain perfect over NC

The Tommies (3-0 overall) were lead by Jada Welke with a game-high 18 points to go with her eight rebounds. They went on a 17-4 scoring run in the second quarter and shot 17-21 from the line. Halle Crockett and Emma Lucas each had 10 points to lead Northern Cass (2-1 overall). Turnovers were the problem for the Jags, having 15 alone in the first half and 25 total for the game. Thompson travels to Grand Forks Central for their next game on December 30 while the Jaguars host Cavalier on December 29.

Connor Asche scored a game-high 24 points for the Grovers to improve to 1-0 on the season. Asche had 18 points in the first half alone. The Hi-Liners were paced by Peyton Zaun who had 15 points. Valley City started the game with five three-pointers in the first quarter. Valley City opens Eastern Dakota Conference play on Friday against Grand Forks Central High, while the Grovers square off with Beulah High School on Monday, December 21.
