Grady EMA gets $20K to prep for vaccine distribution

By Erik Yabor erik.yabor@gaflnews.com Dec 18, 2020 Dec 18, 2020 CAIRO — Grady County commissioners voted this week to allocate up to $20,000 to the Grady County Emergency Management Agency to begin preparing to administer a coronavirus vaccine on a wide scale. EMA director Richard Phillips said the Georgia Department of Public Health will be providing most of what the county needs to administer the vaccine once it arrives, whenever that may be, though shelters will still be needed to allow volunteers to continue working through rough weather conditions. Phillips is unsure which vaccine the county will be receiving, though health officials have told him it will need to be heated before injection.

Grady begins groundwork for COVID-19 vaccine doses

By Erik Yabor erik.yabor@gaflnews.com Dec 11, 2020 Dec 11, 2020 CAIRO — Local health officials are preparing to roll out a vaccine for COVID-19 on a mass scale in Grady County, whenever such a treatment is ready for public consumption. Grady County Health Department Director Michelle Thornton said Friday that she has been asked by state emergency preparedness officials to begin searching for licensed health professionals in the community who would be willing to volunteer for the upcoming vaccination effort. This would be EMSs, EMTs, pharmacists, paramedics, RNs, LPNs, NPs and students in these professions (with an instructor), Thornton said in an email to local caregivers.
