County couldnt get enough votes. The countys Fire Protection districts funding measure, measure q, failed to pass the november ballot. Now four stations are on the chopping block. The decision to close a fire station is not easy. There is no perfect modem. We dont go to school to learn how to close fire stations. Reporter the Fire Protection district covers 300 square miles serving 600,000 neighbors. Leaders say industry standards require at least 600 firefighters on staff based off the area they cover. But right now they are operating at 250. This organization throughout not only in Emergency Response and Fire Prevention and support services is bare bones. Youre watching cbs 5 Eyewitness News in High Definition. Breaking news in oakland four people have been shot all within a couple blocks of one another. Cbs 5 reporter Christin Ayers is there. Chris christin. Thats correct we have a massive scene out here along sixth street. A long scene. You can see multiple cruisers. This area encompassing about six blocks where were being told shootings happened and multiple people involved in the shootings. Multiple victims from what were hearing right now. Four people shot. One person according to authorities is in Critical Condition at this moment. We dont know the conditions of the other four currently. And information just coming in at this moment. I talked to a couple neighbors in this area that heard the gunfire a short time ago before we arrived on scene. A war of words over a device more common in war zones. The debate over using drones in the east bay. Good afternoon, im tori campbell. A debate over drones is heating up in Alameda County. New at noon, allie rasmus joins us live in oakland to explain what the sheriffs want to do with the drones and why the aclu opposes the plan. Reporter well, today, the Alameda County supervisors were supposed to consider whether to allow the Sheriffs Office to buy a drone or as the sheriff says, he prefers to call it, an unmanned aerial device. But the item was taken off the supervisors agenda, just as a couple of Civil Liberties groups had a press conference expressing concerns. The Alameda County Sheriffs Office unveiled what they might purchase, this device. In the past month, Alameda County received around 31,000 in state grant money to buy an unmanned aerial system known to some as a drone.
