Minister Announces Full Review into SUSI Grant Scheme By Mike Gilmore
A full review is underway into the SUSI grant system.
Around 70,000 students avail of the supports each year, amounting to expenditure of around €330m annually.
The review of SUSI will aim to bring the grant system in line with modern standards.
Currently, many people are prevented from availing of grant support as they don t meet some of the strict criteria for a grant.
Students must meet a strict income threshold and exceeding it - even by the smallest of margins - results in ineligibility for a grant.
Particular attention has been paid to the middle income threshold, with many calls for the bar to be raised on this issue over the past few years.
