As lockdown gradually lifts and we approach the end of school term, Skills Development Scotland credits a multi-partnership strategy for keeping Foundation Apprentices on course – physically and virtually – during the Covid-19 pandemic THE challenges Scotland has faced to ensure the country’s school pupils continue to learn and achieve during the pandemic have been unprecedented. Within the education sector, collaboration has been vital in a rapid response to create solutions that will support the skills and learning system. As part of the development of Foundation Apprenticeships, adaptations have been made so pupils were able to continue to progress with their work-based learning throughout the disruption to complete and achieve their qualification.

Amy Riddle, a business administration apprentice with Highland Council.
Highland Council took the opportunity of Scottish Apprenticeship Week to highlight the value apprenticeships offer the individual, employers and the Highland community.
Amy Riddle, a business administration apprentice with Highland Councilâs economy and regeneration team, has been an exceptional ambassador for the Modern Apprenticeship Programme (MAP) during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Ms Riddle studied Higher business management in sixth year at school and really enjoyed the subject.

Hazel Fulton is a developer in SLC’s Contact Centre Technology Team. She is undertaking a Graduate Apprenticeship in Software Engineering with the University of Glasgow.
I joined SLC five years ago, originally working in the Contact Centre before moving to the Contact Centre Technologies team as a developer. My interest in technology really began as a hobby. I enjoyed coding in my spare time and wanted to challenge myself to turn my passion into a career, which I’ve been able to do with SLC.
