Outstanding initiatives driving reconciliation have been recognised in the 2021 Queensland Reconciliation Awards presented tonight in Townsville.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said all winners and finalists had demonstrated reconciliation in action.
“This year, the Queensland Reconciliation Awards have honoured initiatives which have enhanced cultural awareness and understanding and improved the experiences of First Nations people at school, at work and in the community,” the Premier said.
“The winners of the Premier’s Reconciliation Award and joint winners in the Partnership category, the Jabalbina Yalanji Aboriginal Corporation and Rainforest 4 Foundation have formed a unique partnership – the only formalised, non-Government program which purchases land for conservation to be owned and managed by its Traditional Owners.

Rockhampton Museum of Art The scaffolding is coming down, windows are going in and soon the crane will come down at the construction site for the $31.5 million Rockhampton Museum of Art on Quay Street. Jointly funded by local, State and Federal Governments, the completed structure will be six times the size of the existing Rockhampton Art Gallery, providing a home for the city s impressive art collection while delivering significant benefits to the community, generating tourism, economic benefits, and opening up new opportunities for local artists.

When it came time to decide his career, Jye O’Grady thought back to when he would help his mother, a teacher, in her classroom.
He knew that along the same path he could also guide future generations towards a fulfilling education and life.
“I ended up doing my practical assessment at Gracemere State School and at the time the principal gave me the opportunity to work there for the remainder of my final prac and gave me a permanent position out there,” he said.
“(The year) 2016 was my final prac out there and I’ve been there ever since.”
