It s a weekend some refer to as “Runners Christmas,” and indeed, they arrive in the Cape Breton Highlands from all over. The 33rd annual relay race along the 276 kilometres of the Cabot Trail begins Saturday at the Gaelic College in St. Ann s.
The final leg of the Cabot Trail Relay Race is now named in Steve Dunn s honour after he collapsed during the race in 2012. This weekend, his daughter Ashley MacDonald is heading to the Cape Breton Highlands to finally finish the race her father started.
Earlier this week the province announced tournaments will return in Nova Scotia on March 7, with all COVID restrictions ending by March 21. After a two year absence, players will soon hit the ice for one of the largest adult hockey events in North America.
One of the country’s most popular running relays is going virtual this year, with proceeds going to a local non-for-profit that has been instrumental to the event over the years, but is now struggling due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
