CinemaScope: Will the new age cinema and OTT kill the songs and dances from films? Creating a new format, the full-length songs and dance sequences started vanishing from our films, substituted by their two-minutes edited versions The recent web series, Grahan, based in 1984, has a theatre sequence where Subhash Ghai’s Hero is being played and a young girl is immensely enjoying its hit song Tu mera jaanu hai. Listen to this story David Dhawan is rightly credited as the king of masala films. His movies are targeted at an audience that craves for entertainers. As a matter of fact, barring a few exceptions, a majority of his movies have made the spectators smile and his producers and distributors laugh all the way to the bank. His success rate is, without doubt, enviable. That’s one of the reasons why his 45th directorial venture COOLIE NO. 1 is looked forward to. It’s a film that stays fresh in our minds to date. Naturally, when he attempts to remake the much-adored entertainer, the updated version is bound to be judged minutely, perhaps with a magnifying glass.
