The governor’s handlers had strategically placed the seat next to ODM leader’s Raila Odinga. However, another chair was sneaked in at the same spot where the governor’s was. This happened before the burial began and as Obado walked to the venue, he was surprised to find his initial seat was not there.

Agriculture executive Valentine Ogongo said the county lacks milk as production does not meet the demand. Hoteliers, traders and locals have complained of scarcity of the commodity. Crackdown on illegal fishing gears in Lake Victoria looms

THE STANDARD By Anne Atieno | January 28th 2021 at 11:45:17 GMT +0300 MIGORI, KENYA: Migori Security committee has launched a crackdown on fishermen using illegal fishing nets in Lake Victoria, as cartels supporting fishermen with the gears put on notice. The county security committee led by Migori County Commissioner Boaz Cherutich said they were going to mount operations to contain the illegal fishing activity. According to the county commissioner, the team has already deliberated on how it is going to manage the situation. While cautioning the fishermen, the commissioner said the use of illegal fishing gears in the lake was being made possible by some cartels who pretended to be dealing in the fish trade. He claimed the cartels were supporting the fishermen by supplying them with illegal nets.

Oparanya drums up support for ODM in Nyanza

THE STANDARD KENYA ODM has started a campaign to strengthen the party in Nyanza. Deputy party leader Wycliffe Oparanya (pictured) on Saturday visited Migori and Homa Bay counties and held talks with local leaders on how the Orange party could restore its overwhelming support in the region. The ODM support in the region had been punctured following bungled nominations in 2017 that saw some candidates decamp to vie in other outfits’ tickets or as independent candidates. The party was also accused of handpicking or favouring some candidates. File Judging by the headlines carried by international media houses touching on Kenyan affairs, it is safe to say that the country has secured itself a higher slot on most corrupt countries in the world. In fact, On December 9, the country was downgraded by seven points on the Transparency International corruption perception index(CPI) from position 144 in 2018 to 137 in 2019.  The ranking was as a result of runaway corruption whose cases are still long-winding in courts and at worst, have attracted political heckling.
