Canadian Armed Forces Change-of-Command Ceremony – January 14, 2021
In a virtual ceremony, command of the Canadian Armed Forces is transferred from General Jonathan Vance, the outgoing chief of the defence staff, to Vice-Admiral Art McDonald. Governor General Julie Payette, Canada’s commander-in-chief, presides over the ceremony, during which McDonald is also promoted to the rank of admiral. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan, and Associate Defence Minister Laurence MacAulay are among those in attendance. (no interpretation)

Human Rights Defenders, Philanthropists Among 61 Awarded Order of Canada
Human rights defenders, philanthropists, and public health scientists are among the 61 individuals whose innovations and contributions to Canadian society are recognized with the appointment to the Order of Canada.
Gov. Gen. Julie Payette announced the appointees to the country’s highest civilian honour on Dec. 30. The order recognizes these people as those who “have changed our nation’s measure of success and, through the sum of their accomplishments, have helped us build a better Canada.”
The Order of Canada, since its creation in 1967, has accrued 7,000 awarded members whose achievements are recognized at three-levels: Companion, Officer, and Member. The latest announcement includes 1 Companion, 13 Officers, and 47 Members.
First IPC President Steadward appointed to Companion of the Order of Canada Thursday, 31 December 2020
Robert Steadward, one of the founding members of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and its first President, has been promoted to Companion of the Order of Canada.
Canada s Governor General Julie Payette has made 61 appointments to the Order of Canada to mark the new year, and Steadward is the only person given the Companion of the Order of Canada title - the Order s highest.
Steadward served as IPC President from 1989 to 2001, which included signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the International Olympic Committee in 2000 which ensured the same city would host the Olympics and Paralympics moving forward.
