Negros Occidental agro-fishery losses hit P119M

January 29, 2021 THE amount of losses brought by flooding to the agro-fishery sector, including livestock and poultry, of Negros Occidental is now pegged at almost P119 million. The Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA), in a report submitted to Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson Friday, January 29, 2021, said the damage to crops, fisheries and irrigation structures caused by heavy rains, flash floods, strong winds and strong waves have reached P110 million. From January 1 to 5, the OPA noted damage worth P20 million, P86.7 million from January 8 to 13, and P3.33 million from January 6 to 29 this year. The P20-million five-day losses cover 1,576 affected farmers and fisherfolk with areas totaling 783.74 hectares in 43 barangays of cities of Sagay, Cadiz, Victorias, Silay and Talisay, and E.B Magalona town.
