Common Fund Injects GH¢124 2m In New Assemblies

  The District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) is financing the construction of infrastructure projects in some metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies (MMDAs) in the Ashanti, Greater Accra and Eastern regions. The projects involve the construction of new physical structures (mainly administration blocks and staff bungalows), as well as single court edifices. The fund is expending a total of GH¢94.7 million on 30 administration blocks, GH¢13.6 million on senior staff bungalows for the assemblies as well as GH¢15.9 million on 11 court buildings. Out of the 30 administration blocks, which come in the form of two-storey structures for district assemblies and three-storey for municipal assemblies, the Ashanti Region will have 14 projects, the Eastern Region, seven, and the Greater Accra Region, nine.

Release funds to facilitate early completion of DACF-funded projects

705 The Local Government Committee of Parliament has stressed the need for the early release of funds by the Ministry of Finance to facilitate the completion of District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) infrastructure projects in the six newly created regions. The committee said efforts to complete DACF-funded projects in the new regions would continue to lag behind if the Ministry of Finance failed to release the funds on time. The Western North, Bono East and Ahafo regions are currently benefiting from the construction of new administration blocks to provide conducive office spaces for the various regional coordinating councils (RCCs), and the education, health and agriculture directorates in the three regional capitals. The projects - which also include the construction of court buildings, structures that will serve as police commands, and staff bungalows for various categories of public sector workers- are being funded by the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF).
