Renowned Sanskrit scholar and founder-director of the Academy of Sanskrit Research, M.A. Lakshmithathachar, 85, passed away at Melkote in Mandya district on Saturday. He is survived by two sons.
Born on August 22, 1936, Dr. Lakshmithathachar studied Sanskrit and specialised in literature, Navya Nyaya system of philosophy and various systems of Vedanta with special reference to Vishistadvaitha Vedanta, comparative studies of Sanskrit with modern schools of thought, study of scientific subjects in Sanskrit like phonetics etc.
Dr. Lakshmithathachar headed the Academy of Sanskrit Research for 18 years and before that he taught Sanskrit at the Government College in Chitradurga, Government Arts and Science College in Bengaluru, and was the Assistant Professor of Sanskrit in the PG Department of Bangalo

As part of augmenting resources for treating COVID-19 patients, the district administration has identified eight locations to establish 320 beds with oxygen support, Electricity Minister V. Senthil Balaji said on Thursday.
Reviewing the existing arrangements for treating COVID-19 patients with officials of various departments at the Collector Office, the Minister said that fresh cases continued to rise in the district. The demand for oxygen-supported beds was also going up. Hence, it had been decided to set up oxygen concentrators at Pallapatti, Aravakurichi, Velayuthampalayam, Government Arts and Science College, Kaniyalampatti, Kovaikulam, Kulithalai and Vellianai. Provisions would be made to treat 40 patients at each location.

Vaccination centres in the district administered COVID-19 vaccines to people aged above 45 on Saturday as the government could not roll out the drive for the 18-45 age group, due to shortage of vaccines, as planned earlier.
The Health Department late on Friday said that a total of 8,500 doses of Covishield vaccine were allotted to vaccination centres at two government medical college hospitals, 12 block primary health centres and 13 government hospitals. A total of 4,000 doses were allotted to the five zones of Coimbatore Corporation. These doses were used on Saturday.

Final results likely to be delayed owing to the huge number of postal votes
After almost a month-long wait, the counting of votes polled in the Assembly elections will be held at 13 centres in Kozhikode district on Sunday.
Elaborate arrangements have been made by the District Election Office to provide the latest results to the public. The counting of postal votes will begin at 8 a.m. The progress of counting will be available on the website of the Election Commission of India ( https:results.eci.gov.in ).
