On the 29
th of this past month, January, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) suspended FIFA’s sanction against the sitting Confederation of African Football president Ahmad Ahmad.
Ahmad was on the 19
th November 2020 given a 5-year ban from all football-related activities at national and international level by the Adjudicatory Chamber of the FIFA Ethics Committee.
The sanction had effectively ended the sitting CAF president from contesting or even retaining the seat he wrestled from Issa Hayatou in March 17 2017.
CAS ruling now however has given Ahmad some reprieve and sees the beleaguered CAF president take control of CAF ahead of its March 12 elections.
Ahmad Ahmad resumes his mandate as CAF President
Following the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) announcing the suspension of the sanction pronounced against him by the Adjudcatiory Chamber of FIFA Ethics Committee, Mr. Ahmad Ahmad, President of Confederations of African Football (CAF), has resumed his duties.
Last Friday, 29 January 2021, CAS suspended the sanction pronounced by the FIFA Adjudicatory Chamber against Mr. Ahmad Ahmad.
Consequently, he has in fact been restored to his position. At the invitation of the Acting President, Mr. Constant Omari, the CAF Emergency Committee met this Sunday, 31 January 2021 by video conference and took notice of CAS decision.
