A woman is dead after being struck in a hit-and-run collision in Sault Ste. Marie’s west end early Thursday.
A female pedestrian was hit by a vehicle in the area of Second Line West and Brunswick Avenue at about 6 a.m., police say.

She was found with significant injuries and died shortly after.
The driver did not stay at the scene.
Second Line West is closed between Farwell Terrace and Korah Road.
Anyone with information about the collision can call police at 705-949-6300.

Around 5:28 a.m. Monday, police were notified of a collision on Second Line West near Goulais Avenue where a vehicle struck a pedestrian.
The pedestrian succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Officers remained on scene Monday morning and traffic in the area was, until early afternoon, diverted as Second Line West had been closed between Goulais Avenue and Borden Avenue.
The investigation is ongoing. No name has been released.

John Manzo and Gary Trembinski are teaming up, again, to get one of the Top 100 Toronto Maple Leafs of all time inducted into Sault Ste. Marie Walk of Fame.
Joe Klukay grew up in Bayview. He played more than 560 games with the Leafs and Boston Bruins during a 10-year career that started in 1946. The Bayview Flash won four Stanley Cups, a record he shares with Marty Pavelich for most NHL championships won by someone from the Sault. Klukay won Lord Stanley’s mug with the Leafs in 1947, 1948, 1949 and 1951. Klukay was 41 when he celebrated an Allan Cup championship with the Windsor Bulldogs .

Northern Credit Union is closing three of its branches in Sault Ste. Marie and area due partly to what it says it reduced foot traffic as more customers turn to the Internet to do their financial transactions.
A total of seven sites, employing 18 unionized staff, will be affected by the closures, senior vice-president member experience Liisa Woolley told The Sault Star on Friday.

“Definitely traffic volumes played a large factor in that (decision to close the locations), especially now with the number of digital services that are available,” she said.
