he s thin-skinned, we know that. he sees information that he doesn t like or somebody is trashing him and he reacts we see every day on twitter. and so it was a very short-sighted decision on the president s part. whether the president deny himself his own agency and says it s not my fault, we can all see what that is, but that s just how this president operates. i m just saying one guy gets to sit in the oval office and that guy has got to own it. you re right. robert, what does this mean for republicans legislative agenda? doug jones said it last night. people of alabama are a lot more similar than one realizes. he s not going to go so far left. he wants to be in that seat more than two years. the republican candidate was always a thin ice. it s really, really on thin ice. you ve got corker, flake, collins, murkowski, maybe even mccain, whatever he does will say this is not a conservative agenda, number one. number two, i m not on board with this president s agenda. what mit
all about the solvency of the united states, which jeff flake does. so, i actually think the odds are a little higher than he will join mccain and corker and maybe a few others and sink this. and if he does, then trump has nothing to show for 2017 and he goes into an election year, a complete failure in terms of getting bills through congress. e.j., it seems if the president does not get his tax bill that explodes the deficit, then his presidency explodes. that seems to be the washington republicans view of this. we have to do this or we all go down. i think that s right. and what you had today were and over the last week were cracks in the dam. i mean, you had bush, you had mccain, now you ve got flake and you ve got corker. and i think you only need a few more republicans to reach critical mass. and one of the things that would help you reach critical mass is a republican saying, if this guy can t even get us a tax cut, they ve stuck with him because they like all the deregulati
and what you had today were and over the last week were cracks in the dam. i mean, you had bush, you had mccain, now you ve got flake and you ve got corker. and i think you only need a few more republicans to reach critical mass. and one of the things that would help you reach critical mass is a republican saying, if this guy can t even get us a tax cut, they ve stuck with him because they like all the deregulation he s doing because they hope to get a tax cut. and if he can t deliver that, i think there are more republicans who have stuck with him so far who would be ready to speak out. so, yes, i think the tax cut is do or die, not only for the republicans in congress, but for donald trump. let s listen to lindsey graham tonight on fox news trying to give the president some advice because he knows he s watching, about how not to ruin this tax bill for republicans. there are a lot of barking dogs in washington, mr. president. you don t have to kick every one
they re holding their heads at this point. and we ve got corker who is not going to run again. i m sure that this president had something to do with that. that he didn t want to be in the office when he had that as the leader of his party and the chief executive of the united states. this is a crisis point for this country. i was reading the other day the transcripts of john f. kennedy during the cuban missile crisis. we forget that kennedy had a very good recording system. you had an opportunity to see how he made his decisions. he pulled in everybody and it was kept very quiet. he had the leaders on the hill, senators, republicans, as well as democrats, he had national security help. he brought in the smartest people we had outside of government. how are we going to deal with this? he took it a step at a time but it was all done very, very quietly. wasn t calling nikita kruschev rocket man.
created a distraction. donald trump is doing what any leader would do, which is clean it up. he has his two most important interviews today for secretary of state. he has romney, and he s got corker. that s right. and if i could talk for a second on this because i don t talk a lot. you re wasting a lot of time on this. we have a lot going on. one thing that bugged me, everybody is going, this is just like the apprentice. he s bringing people. that s what you want your president-elect to do. you want him to vet, is it giuliani, is it boellton, is it romney? this is the most important position. you want him to have a fair viewing and figure out who is best. when you come out out of all this back and forth and the infighting in the campaign, you look at the three people over the last 24 hours he s looking at, three good, serious people, general petraeus, romney, and corker. serious guys who would be good
