App State women’s basketball senior teammates Lainey Gosnell (Demorest, Ga./Habersham Central) and Pre Stanley (Rockledge, Fla./Rockledge) were named to the Sun Belt All-Conference teams, as the league announced on Thursday.
Stanley earns a postseason all-conference award for the second time in her career, while Gosnell collects her first all-conference honor.
The tandem helped App State accomplish a second winning season in the past three years, was one of four teams in the Sun Belt to win at least 10 games, and made an appearance in the semifinals of the Sun Belt Tournament. Stanley and Gosnell are the first Mountaineer teammates to make the all-conference team since 2016-17 while it’s the first time since 2014-15 (Maryah Syndor) a player has made the all-first team.
App State women’s basketball fell to Troy in the weekend finale, 74-52, on Saturday afternoon at the Holmes Center.
App State is now 8-8 and 5-5 in league play and Troy improved to 11-4 and 7-1 in conference action.
Janay Sanders (Charlotte, N.C./Mallard Creek) scored a game and season-high 15 points while going a 9-of-9 from the free-throw line and grabbed a season-high four rebounds. Lainey Gosnell (Demorest, Ga./Habersham Central) was the other Mountaineer in double figures with 13 points and pulled down six rebounds. Maya Calder (Landover, Md./National Christian Academy) led the team with a season-best seven off the glass.
