GOSHEN TOWNSHIP – Community members are being warned about identity theft scams and encouraged to report any to their local police departments.
Goshen Police District Chief Steve McDaniel reported a widespread problem of identity theft scams across the country, such as unemployment or social security benefits or small business loans. He encouraged anyone falling victim to the scams to contact their local police department in addition to the state department of job and family services because the police department can help guide individuals in reporting the issue and follow up with them to ensure it has been handled properly. The department can also provide documentation of the incident, he said.
