New seat in Fenland churchyard is a bridge to village s past  | Updated: 11:19, 07 April 2021 A new seat has been installed in a Fenland churchyard thanks to a village council. The seat, which has been built in the churchyard of St Paul s Church at the Gote Crossroads in Gorefield has been provided by the parish council. It has been built using the keystone from the original Gote Bridge which was saved when the bridge was demolished. The seat was built using the keystone from the former Gote Bridge. (45918834) Originally the bridge was a brick arch similar to the one at Fendyke Lane. The keystone has the inscription LP, which parish councillor Peter Thatcher explained indicated that it was in the parish of Leverington when it was built as there was no parish of Gorefield at that time.

MP pays visit to Fenland village to see progress on £198,000 hall project

 | Updated: 16:30, 15 February 2021 Work on a major upgrade to a Fenland village hall has continued despite lockdown and is almost complete. The extension to Gorefield Community Hall and Pavilion has seen improvements that will allow for an extra room as well as a separate bar and lounge area. The upgrade is largely due to £198,000 of funding to Gorefield Parish Council from the Government s Communities Capital Fund, provided via Cambridgeshire County Council. (44415401) On Friday local MP Steve Barclay took time to see the progress for himself and he was quick to praise the Gorefield community for supporting the project.
