African American Children s Book Fair turns 29 virtually

(Hopin screenshot) Guests logged into the 29th annual African American Children’s Book Fair Saturday from across the country and even as far away as Botswana and Albania   to get a closer, if virtual, look at some of the books on display. But more specifically, they wanted to see the authors and illustrators who created them. The book fair is one of the largest and oldest events dedicated to Black children’s literature in the United States. This year, its nonprofit organizer chose to shift the event to the virtual platform Hopin.

Pasadena Celebrates Black History Month - 2021 2/1/21.  ​The City of Pasadena is celebrating Black History Month by recognizing the achievements and contributions of Black Americans and their central role in our nation’s history with virtual programs, events, and activities for all ages. Pasadena Public Library; the Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Department; and the Pasadena Black History Committee are offering a month-long series of programs in February. Library programming is sponsored by The Friends of the Pasadena Public Library. The Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Department and Pasadena Black History Committee are holding events in lieu of Pasadena’s 39th Annual Black History Month Parade and Festival.

January 2021 Resource Roundup: Antiracist Books for Every Age Group Happy New Year! We hope the new year has been treating you well so far and that you’ve been keeping up with your resolutions. One of the most common New Year’s resolutions is to read more, and this year, many of us are resolved to become more antiracist. To help with both of these worthy goals, we’ve compiled an antiracist book list.  Check out a few of our favorites; we’ve selected four children’s books, four middle-grade and YA books, and four books for adult readers. Each title is linked to a Black-owned bookstore, so you can simultaneously support Black-owned businesses.
