The Woodstock High boys lacrosse team broadcast its intention to make a serious run at a VPA Division I state championship by going on the road and knocking off unbeaten division leader CVU, 8-6, final on Tuesday afternoon.
The Wasps (10-1) entered the day ranked fourth in D-I entering the final few days of the regular season.
“It was just a great team win, top to bottom. I’m really proud of the guys,” Woodstock coach Brandon Little said. “It was hard-fought. CVU is a strong team, as they always are.”

THETFORD Thetford-Rivendell softball trailed Twin Valley 9-3 after two innings at home on Thursday. But after a pep talk from head coach Jesse Soulia, the Panthers made a big comeback and won 26-14 for their first victory of the season.
The Panthers (1-3) scored 10 runs in the third to spark that comeback.
“Tonight, I watched my team come together and support each other on and off the field,” Soulia said. “Players playing in places that they had not played before. Hits were contagious tonight and I surely enjoyed seeing all the smiles.”

WHITE RIVER JUNCTION The Hartford High boys lacrosse team ignored the wet conditions to dominate BFA-Fairfax to the tune of a 12-1 win at the Alumni Athletic Complex on Wednesday.
Joe Barwood (two assists), Gordon Willey (one assist) and Chris Pierce racked up three-goal hat tricks to power the attack. Ezra Mock, Bentley Boonyaharn and Blaine Gour provided the others. Coach Grant Whiteway credited Hartford’s second-half play on defense, with Connor Tierney scooping up six ground balls and forcing two takeaways.
Goaltender Tarin Prior recorded 21 saves. The Canes host St. Johnsbury on Tuesday.

BRISTOL, Vt. The Hartford High boys lacrosse team shook off two year’s worth of rust to open the season with an 8-3 victory at Mount Abraham-Vergennes on Saturday.
The Hurricanes used a suffocating defense to limit the hosts all afternoon. A balanced offensive attack proved more than sufficient on the other end of the field. Carter Nalette had a team-best three points on two goals and an assist for Hartford.
Gordon Willey and Chris Pierce each had a pair of goals for the Canes. Joe Barwood had a goal and one assist. Ezra Mock added a goal, and Bentley Boonyaharn had an assist.
