新中国成立前重要文物多分布于土夫子集中的东郊土夫子本来是个正常的职业。近代以来，长沙城区流行用煤炭做燃料，加入了黄泥巴的煤炭更加耐烧好用，再加上造屋平土及烧砖取泥也需要大量的土，于是便诞生了这样一个职业。当时的长沙城区面积还很小，土夫子们就近取土，首先选择的就是城区附近的丘陵。而长沙两千多年来，累积的大量古代墓葬就密密麻麻地分布在城外郊野的丘陵之上。从新中国成立前长沙出土文物的分布地看，大多集中在陈家大山、识字岭、子弹库这些地点。它们大多分布在长沙的东郊。这也是土夫子们取土最方便的地方。被土夫子们盗掘出的重要文物有战国楚帛书（子弹库）、战国人物御龙图（陈家大山）以及大量的珍贵陪葬品。这些被盗出土的文物令考古学界震惊。在考古学研究上，文物的出土背景至关重�
