The move comes as cases of COVID have dramatically increased in region. It s really safety for our visitors, our community, and our staff, said the museum s executive director Kent Russell about the temporary closure to the public.
The museum will remain open with staff. We re a small frontline staff and they re very vulnerable, Russell said.
There are also concerns that January could be a particularly difficult month for increased COVID infections after people have returned from holiday gatherings, he said. I think it s important for the cultural sector to not only participate fully with the civic authorities but also show some leadership, Russell said.
