Google Cloud announced this week that its Healthcare Consent Management API, aimed at giving users a simple way to manage individuals consent over health data use, is now generally available.
The API was made available via Public Preview last fall. According to the tech giant, early adopters have used it to create personalized patient portals, securely integrate data into clinical workflows and develop virtual clinical trials. We’re pleased to add the Healthcare Consent Management API to our portfolio of solutions, and to support healthcare and life sciences professionals as healthcare data begins to span a variety of devices, scenarios, and locations, wrote Google Cloud Healthcare and Life Sciences Product Manager Jameson Rogers in a blog post.
Marlborough medical device company Hologic will soon integrate Google Cloud’s machine learning technologies into its Genius Digital Diagnostics system, which helps doctors screen for cervical cancer, Hologic announced on Monday.
The multi-year partnership is expected to increase actionable insights from cytology slides, for cytotechnologists and pathologists, according to a press release from Hologic. Google Cloud is expected to provide secure data architecture to further enhance what the Hologic system is capable of doing.
“Through this collaboration with Hologic, we are helping to evolve digital diagnostics by complementing their expertise in diagnostics and AI with our expertise in machine learning,” said Joe Miles, managing director of Google Cloud Healthcare and Life Sciences, in a statement.

Google Cloud is the latest company to put its tech muscle behind efforts to vaccinate millions of Americans against the COVID-19 virus.
The company launched artificial intelligence and machine learning tools Monday to help organizations forecast and model COVID-19 cases to better inform vaccine allocation. The cloud-based tools also are designed to assist with vaccine distribution, appointment scheduling, eligibility screening and communications.

Highmark Health and Google Cloud announced a six-year strategic partnership to use cloud, analytics and artificial intelligence technologies to power the organization s digital health initiatives.
Pittsburgh-based Highmark Health plans to use Google Cloud s technology muscle to be the innovation engine behind its Living Health model, which is designed to provide a more coordinated, personalized, technology-enabled experience for patients, the organization said.
One of the country s largest insurers, Pittsburgh-based Highmark Health also is the parent company of Allegheny Health Network, an integrated delivery network comprised of 13 hospitals, more than 2,500 affiliated physicians and ambulatory surgery centers.
