According to the Kent State University website, the first ever month-long celebration of Black History was established by Kent’s students, faculty and administration in February 1970. Black History Month was designated as a national holiday in 1976 to celebrate the central role of Black Americans in the country’s history. This year’s theme is “Black Resistance.”
The new Georgia T. Lord Library was unveiled at Goodyear Civic Square on Aug. 1, bringing the city’s vision to create the heart of the community to life.
