Firehouse Stage finds a solution to COVID pandemic is under a tent

View Comments In the audience was Naima Kradjian, CEO of Goodwill Theater Inc. and longtime supporter of the arts in the Southern Tier. I wanted to experience what it felt like to be socially distanced from the art and from each other, recalled Kradjian.  Will I still feel like I m in an audience? What will it be like? Kradjian recalls feeling shocked at the back and forth energy between the performers and patrons, even with a socially distant audience, in the 100-seat tent in a parking lot next door to the Berkshire Theatre Group’s 780-seat Colonial Theatre. The first time the actors came on and started to sing, I was not alone in crying, said Kradjian.  Almost everybody in the audience had that reaction of oh my gosh, we can feel this again.

This exciting performance is filmed and reimagines the Puccini masterpiece during the pandemic, in New York City focusing on Asian, Asian-American and BIPOC youth.

WWI Memorial opening ceremony features song developed in Southern Tier Provided by Prospect Theater Company “The Hello Girls,” a musical about America’s first female soldiers in World War I, was developed in Johnson City and performed at the opening of a World War I memorial in Washington, D.C. Song inspired by the “Hello Girls” developed in Johnson City was performed at the ceremony April 22, 2021 On April 16, the World War I Memorial site in Pershing Park, Washington, D.C., was unveiled in a livestreamed ceremony of the Inaugural Raising of the Flag. The event covered the history of World War I and included numerous speakers whose family members served in the war. Viewers learned about the “Doughboys,” the “Hello Girls” and other veterans who gave their service to the country. The Binghamton community played a role in this, as a song about the “Hello Girls,” which was written in Johnson City, was performed at the ceremony.
