Here is a brief bio of my favourite actress for those of you too dedicated to E2 to visit the Internet Movie Database.
She worked on stage in New York before her first (brief) movie appearance in The Turning. Not wanting to become a TV actor, she was reluctant to audition for the pilot of a new Fox show called The X-Files. Fortunately, she did. Despite playing Dana Scully for over 8 years, she has remained resistant to typecasting and seems to do pretty well in a variety of roles. Her 5-minute appearance in Chicago Cab is about as un-Scully as it gets, and she is breathtaking as Lily Bart in The House of Mirth.
