In a historic, landmark decision, the New York Court of Appeals ruled in favor of Protect the Adirondacks that cutting more than 25,000 trees and clearing more than 27 acres of forest land on the Forest Preserve in the Adirondacks, to build 27 miles of wide snowmobile trails known as “Class II Community Connector” trails, violated the constitution. The trails were the first in a plan by the Department of Environmental Conservation to build hundreds of miles of such trails. The decision was the second major Forest Preserve decision in New York’s history, lining up with the seminal case from 1930.
