Oklahoma State s Cade Cunningham and Naismith Men s College Player of the Year favorite Luka Garza headlined the Associated Press first-team All-America selections for the 2020-21 season.
Cunningham and Garza a unanimous selection were joined by Illinois Ayo Dosunmu, Gonzaga s Corey Kispert and Baylor s Jared Butler. The players were chosen by the 63 media members who vote in the weekly AP Top 25 poll. Oklahoma State, last year wasn t the year that they were proud of, but I know there s a bunch of guys that wanted to win and were going to do everything that it took to win, Cunningham told the AP. So having a group of guys like that, with the coach we have and staff we have, that s what I want to surround myself with.

Defense doesn’t figure into golf, skiing or gymnastics. In launching the discus, it’s you against the elements, no human resistance.
And there is sometimes a tendency to overlook defense in team settings. Baseball Hall of Fame and Heisman Trophy voters do exactly that.
In basketball it’s half the game, and the more proficient practitioners Virginia, remember, is the “defending” NCAA champion tend to prevail. This said, defense can be imperfect in the sense that the best laid schemes “gang aft agley” … or as we’ve seen with Illinois basketball, backfire!

The West Coast Conference named Gonzaga’s Corey Kispert Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, and teammate Jalen Suggs was named Freshman of the Week for the third time this season.
In Saturday’s game against the then-No. 16 Virginia, Drew Timme hugged Kispert during the last media timeout and told him he was proud of him. Kispert scored a career-high 32 points and tied Gonzaga’s single-game three-pointer record with nine successful shots from deep.
The night ended with a clear 98-75 victory over the Cavaliers, but for the No. 1 Bulldogs it seemed like just another day at the office.
