That could be about to change, though, courtesy of Niwa’s high resolution weather model known as the New Zealand Convective Scale Model (NZCSM). Traditionally, figures from individual weather stations closest to each course have been used in calculations, but Turner, a keen golfer himself, noted the nearest wind speed recording was not always representative of the course itself, and was sometimes quite distant.

Hororata Golf Club suffered significant damage in the May 2021 flooding. Five weeks later, the club has re-opened and the course is playable thanks to fundraising and the hard work of volunteers. The NZCSM forecasts weather on a 1.5 kilometre grid, resulting in a highly detailed forecast that accounts for the interaction of weather systems across New Zealand’s highly varied terrain.

(Reuters) â New Zealand golfer Danny Lee has decided to skip the rescheduled Tokyo Olympics this year to focus on retaining his PGA Tour card for next season, Golf New Zealand said on Monday.
Lee, who finished 27th at the 2016 Rio Olympics, is currently 192nd in the PGA Tour rankings and needs to finish within the top 125 by the end of August to retain his playing rights for next season.
The South Korean-born 30-year-old has missed eight cuts in 16 events and collected only two top 25 finishes this season. He finished 21st at the Valspar Championship in Florida on Sunday.

Kiwi golfer Danny Lee has pulled out of the Tokyo Olympics.
Lee, who finished 21st at the Vespar Championshp on the PGA Tour today, has made the decision to focus on retaining his PGA Tour card for next season.
He currently sits 192nd on the FedEx Cup standings with the top 125 by the August cut-off earning their spots in the 2021-22 season.
Lee has struggled for form this season missing eight cuts in 16 events and just two top 25 finishes.
