Fears have been raised for a camper who infuriated neighbours by pitching her tent on a tourist beach as a cyclone bears down on Queensland.
Diana McKinstry illegally made a home and garden with a veggie patch and banana tree near houses by Ellis Beach, north of Cairns, in April after losing her job.
Her set-up led to complaints from local residents and warnings from authorities that her beachside home could be swept away by wild weather.
Fears for Ms McKinstry s safety were heightened on Sunday after the Bureau of Meteorology declared the formation of tropical Cyclone Kimi.
The category two cyclone was estimated to be 130 kilometres east southeast of Cairns by Monday afternoon, the Bureau said, as it tracked south.
