Thursday, April 29, 2021 4:00 AM James David Gray, perpetual optimist, fun dad, soccer aficionado, golf enthusiast, confidant, hardworking gentleman, and a million other beautiful things, died on April 18, 2021, following a life well-lived.
Mr. Gray was born in Markdale, Ontario, Canada, the first son of Eileen and Goldie Gray.
His father, the town doctor, was the attending Physician to his birth. Mr. Gray was rarely believed when he told this story, until he proved it on his long-form birth certificate. This was the beginning of his colorful life and knack for storytelling.
Mr. Gray, only younger to sister, Christy, had the dubious task of setting an example for his three younger siblings: Barbara, Billy, and Barry. His young boy pranks included eating prized fruit from Mr. Lucas’s tree, reflecting a beam of sunlight into Mr. Steer’s living room and mishaps with a BB gun and hand-crafted bow and arrow. But spring-sport athletes have had their entire high school careers, including Grades 11 and 12, wiped out. Football is a fall sport so those players at least got in their Grade 11 seasons in 2019 before the pandemic hit in March of 2020. “I’m fortunate in that I made varsity in Grade 10 so was able to send out video of two seasons,” said Bunting, who won the B.C. championship with the Rams in Grade 10 and made the provincial quarter-finals in Grade 11.
