No new varieties were added to the list this year.
The 2021 maize planting campaign is just around the corner and growers are once again deciding what varieties to grow this year.
This year’s recommended list sees the addition of no new varieties.
However, the variety P7932 has been removed from the list since 2020 primarily due to availability of seed.
Below are this year’s recommended covered and uncovered recommended varieties.
Recommended list of covered forage maize 2021
Ambition (R): This is the lowest yielding variety on the list but has the highest starch content. It has extremely high dry matter content and is an extremely early maturing variety. It is suitable for late sowing and/or early harvest particularly on marginal sites. Irl Agent: Goldcrop Ltd.
The Department of Agriculture has released this year’s recommended spring cereal list.
There was just one new variety added to the list this year.
The spring wheat variety Hexham has gained provisional recommendation and will be distributed by Goldcrop.
KWS Chilham has been dropped from the spring wheat recommended list.
There have been no additions to the spring oat recommended list, but Keely has been dropped.
There has also been no new additions to the spring barley recommended list.
However, the variety Limona has been dropped.
