Officials said that two persons were initially intercepted at the airport with gold worth Rs 1.12 crore. Following this the roles of two others were identified, and they too were apprehended.
The DRI received specific information about a syndicate involved in smuggling of foreign origin gold, following which it carried out raids at two Kalbadevi shops and seized gold and cash on September 9.
