On Monday, the federal budget allocated resources and attention to not only a possible new transit loop between Ottawa and Gatineau, but also a new interprovincial crossing. But as the finance minister was delivering the news, dozens of motorists were lined up on the existing bridges, in queues stretching several kilometres, waiting for official permission to cross from one part of our community into another.
Is that irony or coincidence? Either way, it was ridiculous. And it underscored that while Ottawa is only a four-hour drive from Queen’s Park, it sometimes seems as far away as the Ingenuity helicopter on Mars.
