綜合陸媒報導，古慧晶從小就喜歡聞「汽油味」，汽車轟隆隆的聲音，在她耳裡成了動人的旋律，尤其是小學時從電影螢幕中看到高超的駕駛技巧和汽車改裝，讓她異常興奮，「如果長大後能擁有一輛自己的車，自己改裝、自己修理，多酷啊。」儘管求學過程中，家人一度無法諒解她執意報考汽修專業，但她對汽車的熱情最終打動家人，並轉而支持她追夢。
這次參加技能大賽，讓古慧晶備感壓力，但她不輕言放棄，在2位教練的鼓勵和指導下，她每天進行14小時的高強度訓練，無論是4輪定位、故障診斷、引擎拆裝維護和保養等一系列繁瑣的操作，都在古慧晶每日的常規訓練項目之中，這也讓她在2週內少了7.5公斤。
但付出的辛苦也在此次大賽獲得回報，古慧晶僅憑26分鐘就在汽車機電維修項目中奪下一等獎，不但打破全校最好紀錄，也是全省第一
