IO Interactive’s plans to let Hitman 3 players use earlier games’ locations did not go as planned, but that doesn’t mean you’ll have to re-buy the first two games. The developer has promised that PC gamers who own Hitman or Hitman 2 won’t have to buy those games again just to access their earlier material in the new title. It outlined in a guide that it was “continuing to work on a solution” that would allow importing locations for free, but it didn’t say when it would be ready, just saying sometime in the “coming weeks.”
You won’t need to repurchase Hitman 1 and 2 to access their levels in Hitman 3
Rest easy, everyone. You’ll have access to all the levels from Hitman 1 and 2 in Hitman 3 after all. Developer IO Interactive tweets that it’s working on a solution to allow PC players who own the prequels on Steam to “import locations from those games into Hitman 3 at no additional cost”. The developer says it guarantees “that players will not need to repurchase the games” on the Epic Store, which Hitman 3 will be exclusive to.
Epic Games adds on Twitter: “We never want players to feel forced to repurchase content on the Epic Game Store that they bought on another PC store so they can access features in a new game. We are working closely with IO Interactive, and you will be able to access past content from earlier Hitman games.”
IO Interactive clarified that PC players who buy Hitman 3 will be able to import locations from previous entries they own at no additional cost.
This was the developer s initial plan, which was announced back when Hitman 3 was revealed, but the clarification was needed following a few days of uncertainty.
IO indeed said on Friday that Hitman 3 s Epic Store exclusivity meant that levels from Hitman 1 and Hitman 2 would not be able to be imported as they were released on Steam, PCGamesN reported. So players who already own the games on Valve s platform would have to repurchase them on Epic Games Store.
But Epic and IO are now working on a better solution.
Update: In a statement released yesterday, IO Interactive confirmed that, “we guarantee players will not need to repurchase the games.”
“We are continuing to work on a solution with our partners to allow PC players who own
Hitman or
Hitman 3 at no cost,” it continues.
While there isn’t a solution at present, IO Interactive says players should take advantage of the
Hitman 1 Access Pass while a
Hitman 2 Access Pass is sorted.
